I'm super busy with client work (yay!) and I like to devote a lot of time to editing and preparing my clients' images, so when my friend Patty invited me to her summer memories blog circle I was excited to have a reason to take time for some personal work as well. Last night my daughter discovered that if you dip sidewalk chalk in water you can "paint" with it on the stones in the backyard. She was so excited about her discovery and I was able to capture her while she was totally engrossed in what she was doing. I tried to play with the composition so that the images felt like my experience of watching her play. Oh, and also she's wearing one of my childhood dress-up capes as a dress...backwards. Perfectly her. Now that the evenings are warm and light I'm excited for more nights just like this.

Baby JW's Shower
When I was in VA last month I was hired by a dear friend as a gift to her dear friend to photograph the shower for her friend's second baby. This was a special shower because this beautiful mom-to-be has a 19 year old son, so she was getting ready to welcome a new baby boy after a bit of a break in between. The guest of honor didn't want too much hoopla made over her so I approached this from more of a documentary angle and really tried to capture the feeling of friends and family gathering to support someone they love. I had such a fun time catching up with my friend and meeting everyone at the shower. I really enjoyed just quietly moving around the room and clicking my shutter at all of the amazing details and sweet moments I saw around me.

May Favorites
In no particular order, these are some of my favorite personal images from this past month. Some of them are my favorite pictures I've ever taken. I've been really trying to bring a new spirit to my photography and push myself further to shoot moments as they're unfolding. My ultimate goal is to make my images look like the experience felt either for me as the observer or how I want my daughter to remember something she did. I think I'm slowly inching closer to that goal and I know that developing my personal photography will carry over to amazing client sessions as well. I hope you had a great May and thanks so much for looking!
