black & white 365 update

Back at the end of January I told you I was thinking of turning my one-a-day project for that month into a black & white 365 project.  I've actually managed to stick with it and I am really digging the rhythm of shooting daily.  I feel not only full of creative energy but I'm also beginning to really "see" things in terms of shadows, tones, light, and dark.  I'm really interested in where this project will take me this year.  I wanted to share some of my favorites from February and  March with you so you can see what I've been up to.  A couple of these have been shared on facebook but most of them just get shuffled to the "BW 365" folder on my computer so I thought it was time for them to see the light of day.  Thanks for looking!

film mama blog circle: march

I am SO thrilled to be a part of this film mama blog circle with these super talented film photographers.  The community of women that has developed (ha. nice film pun) at film mama has been incredible.  It's a safe space for film photographers of all levels to share our work, ask questions, and just experience the highs and lows of film photography together.  I've learned an incredible amount from the photographers there and received so much encouragement so I feel really grateful to be a part of this blog circle where we can share what we love about film and allow our followers to discover new film mamas that they might not have seen before.

For the first month I decided to share a roll of Ektar 100 that I shot of my daughter at the playground.  These images really embody 'film mama' to me because they not only capture my girl, carefree, and exploring a new space but they also show off what I love about film.  The colors, the way film has no problem handling harsh noontime sun, and the lovely softness of film images just draw me in.  Thanks for looking!  Follow the circle all the way around by first visiting the wonderful and extremely talented Kristin Hemenway at Americana Portraits.

the creek

Yesterday was the first day that really felt like spring is coming.  We decided to grab her boots and head to our favorite local park to splash in the creek.  The warm sun felt so good on our skin as we hiked through the woods.  She giggled with excitement as we got closer to the stream.  We were the only people on the trail and we played for more than an hour in the cool water.  It felt like a celebration of newness after making it through the cold winter.  We're both ready for long days filled with light.  Spring is (almost) here.
